How are refugees resettled?
Resettlement means relocating to
another country. It can take years to
obtain permission to resettle.
Refugees who are resettled in the United States are expected to become employed, find housing, and enroll children in school. Resettlement requires learning English and adjusting to a new way of living. There are organizations and volunteers who help refugees adapt to the new country.
Refugees have been welcomed across the United States from Burma, Somalia, Iraq, Nepal, Bosnia, Uganda, and many other countries.
