What is a refugee camp?

Many refugees live in an area referred to as

a refugee "camp" that is located in or

near their homeland. The camps are

often overcrowded and have limited

food, water, and other resources.

Some camps have schools, but

supplies can be scarce and there are

few teachers for hundreds of children.

The camps are usually run by governments, the United Nations, international organizations such as the Red Cross, or non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that focus on issues related to health, sanitation, education, and safety.
